01What information do we collect?
In short: the research site does not require an account, and we collect very little — aggregate, non-identifying usage data, standard server logs, and anything you choose to send us.
The research site is a public collection of research articles. You do not need to register, log in, or provide any personal information to read it.
Information you provide to us. We only collect personal information that you volunteer — for example, if you email us a press or general inquiry. This may include your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
Information collected automatically. Some information is gathered automatically when you visit, but it does not reveal your identity:
- Aggregate analytics. We use Umami Cloud, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service, to understand site usage. It sets no cookies, stores no personal data, and does not follow you across other websites. IP addresses are hashed and are not retained. We see only aggregate measures such as page views, referring source, approximate country, device type, and browser.
- Server and log data. Our servers and hosting providers automatically record standard request logs — such as IP address, timestamp, the page requested, and the browser user-agent — which we use to operate and secure the site and to diagnose problems.
- Advertising traffic. If you reach the site by clicking a Spicer advertisement, the advertising platform may process information about that click under its own privacy policy.
We do not knowingly process any sensitive personal information through the research site.
02How do we process your information?
In short: to operate and secure the site, understand aggregate usage, respond to inquiries, measure our marketing, and comply with law.
- To operate, maintain, and secure the research site, including troubleshooting and protecting against abuse or fraudulent activity.
- To understand how the site is used in aggregate so we can improve our content.
- To respond to inquiries and provide support when you contact us.
- To measure the effectiveness of our marketing at an aggregate level.
- To comply with our legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from public authorities.
03What legal bases do we rely on?
In short: we process personal information only where we have a valid legal basis under the GDPR and UK GDPR.
If you are located in the EU or UK, we may rely on the following:
- Legitimate interests. To maintain and secure the site, to analyze aggregate, non-identifying usage so we can improve our content, and to measure our marketing. We have assessed that these interests do not override your rights and freedoms — in part because our analytics are cookieless and store no personal data.
- Consent. Where consent is required for a specific purpose, we will ask for it and you may withdraw it at any time. The research site does not currently use non-essential cookies or similar device storage for analytics, so no analytics consent banner is shown.
- Legal obligations. Where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law or respond to lawful requests.
04When and with whom do we share your information?
In short: only with the service providers that help us run the site, where required by law, or in connection with a business transfer.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers that run the servers and network the site depends on, and that process request logs on our behalf.
- Analytics provider. We use Umami Cloud as our analytics processor. It collects aggregate, cookieless usage data on our behalf under a data processing agreement and does not use that data for its own purposes.
- Advertising platforms where you arrive via, or interact with, a Spicer advertisement — processed under those platforms’ own policies.
We may also share or transfer information in connection with a merger, sale, financing, or acquisition of all or part of our business; with our affiliates (who must honor this notice); or where required to comply with law or protect our rights.
05Do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?
In short: the research site does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies for analytics.
Our analytics service is cookieless and does not store or retrieve information on your device. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies on the research site for analytics purposes. Because of this, no cookie-consent banner is required for our analytics.
06How long do we keep your information?
In short: only as long as necessary for the purposes described here.
Server and request logs are retained for a limited period for security and operational purposes, then deleted or anonymized. Aggregate analytics are retained only in non-identifying form. Correspondence you send us is kept for as long as needed to handle your inquiry and any follow-up, and as required by law.
07How do we keep your information safe?
In short: we use appropriate technical and organizational security measures.
We have implemented reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information we process. However, no transmission over the Internet or method of storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never defeat our safeguards. You access the site at your own risk.
08Do we collect information from minors?
In short: the research site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
The site addresses topics related to adult intimacy and is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe we may hold data from a person under 18, please contact us at help@spicer.app and we will take reasonable measures to delete it.
09What are your privacy rights?
In short: depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information.
If you are in the EU or UK, you may have the right to request access to and a copy of your personal information; request correction or deletion; restrict or object to our processing; and, where applicable, request portability. To exercise any of these rights, email us at help@spicer.app.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Malta, this is the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC).
10Do we make updates to this notice?
In short: yes — we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.
The updated version will be indicated by a revised date at the top of this page and will take effect as soon as it is accessible. We encourage you to review this notice periodically.
